The academy, which is part of L.E.A.D. Academy Trust, invited Ms Greenwood to meet pupils and staff from Early Years Foundation Stage 2 through to Year 6.
She began her visit in Early Years, where the academy places a strong emphasis on language and communication. Staff create a deliberately language-rich environment and use everyday conversations with children to build their vocabulary and give them a strong start as learners.
In Year 5, she met a pupil who spoke about how much he is enjoying school, including how he has come to love reading.
Year 6 pupils then talked Ms Greenwood through the academy’s bespoke PSHE (Personal, Social, Health and Economic) curriculum. Lessons are built around real-life situations pupils may come across as they grow up, giving them the chance to think through how they would respond and see how their learning connects to everyday life.
“It was a pleasure to welcome Lilian to Jubilee. Our pupils were keen to show her what they have been working on, and it was lovely to hear them talk about it with such pride.
“We want our pupils to thrive, and to be ready for life beyond the school gates. Helping our children to develop their voices and build real-world skills is key to what we do.”
“I really enjoyed my most recent visit to Jubilee L.E.A.D. Academy. The pupils I met were clearly proud of their school. The academy’s work on early language development is impressive, and it was clear that staff know their pupils well and want the best for every one of them.”
